Summer Interpretive Program Series
The Dubois Museum offers a series of free interpretive programs throughout June, July and August about the cultural and natural history of the Upper Wind River Valley.

Tours and Field Trips

Interpretive tours of the Dubois Museum are available for schools and other groups all year long.

Driving/hiking field trips to Sheep Eater Indian bighorn sheep traps, buffalo drive lines, teepee rings, petroglyph sites, and tie hack ruins can be scheduled from May through October.

Self-guided tie hack tour guidebooks are also available.

Resource Trunks

Three traveling resource trunk exhibits suitable for students from elementary through high school age are available to educators free of charge. Each school is responsible for shipping and insurance.

Mountain Shoshone: The Sheep Eaters Resource Trunk contains activities and resources to teach students about the life of the Sheep Eater Indians. Trunk resources include:

  • Teacher guide with photos, text, and activities
  • Posters
  • Video tape and slide show
  • Artifacts, minerals, literature, and other museum materials

Learn More about Rock Art Resource Trunk contains petroglyph models and a teacher's guide with drawings and activities to help students understand this unique art form.

Upper Wind River Valley Geology Resource Trunk contains activities and materials to help students understand the Dubois area's complex geology. The trunk contains:

  • Photos and brief geologic history of the Upper Wind River Valley
  • PowerPoint presentation on CD
  • Geology books and periodicals from the museum
  • Student projects and classroom activities
  • Rocks, minerals. and fossils of the area, plus hand lenses
