U.S. Cavalry in Wyoming

Cavalry troopers were the first National Park rangers, protecting the lands and wildlife from 1886 to 1918.  Because it had become a recognized symbol of authority and information for park visitors, the cavalry field hat became part of the uniform of the civilian park ranger.
